Using it

A 60 mm head covers one area at a time. A shoulder, a knee, a section of the jaw. Trying to cover a whole back with it is not a good use of anyone’s evening.

Hold it against the skin, or a few centimetres off it for slightly wider coverage at lower intensity. It cuts off on its own at the end of the cycle.

The literature on red and near-infrared light applied to the body is largely about mechanism, dose and protocol. That is the part worth reading before you buy anything.

These are independent published studies on red and near-infrared wavelengths. They were not conducted on Skyluxe devices, they are described here rather than interpreted, and nothing on this page claims this product will reproduce their results.

Almost every device in this category quotes an irradiance figure lifted from a factory datasheet, at an unstated distance, often taken with a meter that was never calibrated for narrow-band emitters. Nobody checks it, so nobody corrects it.

A single-point device for one area at a time — a shoulder, a knee, a section of the jawline. It emits red and near-infrared light from a 60 mm head that you hold against or just above the skin for a fixed three-minute cycle.
The housing is machined aluminium with a matte anodised finish, weighted so it sits still when you rest it on a surface rather than rolling off. One recessed button, three timed cycles, no app and no screen. It charges over USB-C and travels in a jacket pocket.

It depends entirely on what you want to cover. For one shoulder, one knee or a section of the face it puts the emitters directly against the skin, which is the most efficient geometry there is. For a whole back it would take an unreasonable number of sessions — buy a panel instead.
The mask and the belt cover a defined region hands free while you sit. The handheld covers a small area and you hold it there. It is the cheapest way into the range and the easiest to travel with, not a replacement for either.
Both work and the dose differs, which is why we will publish a measured figure at contact and at 5 cm. Contact delivers more in less time; a small gap covers slightly more area. The Dosing Guide explains the trade.
It emits light at specific red and near-infrared wavelengths at a stated intensity, for a stated time. That is the whole mechanism. We describe the technology and cite the published research on the Science page, and we publish our own output measurements on the Our Testing page. We do not claim the device produces any particular health outcome for you.
Honestly: it varies, and some people notice nothing. Published studies on photobiomodulation generally run sessions over eight to twelve weeks before assessing anything. If you are looking for a same-week result, this is the wrong purchase. If it does not suit you, the 30-day home trial exists precisely for that.
Do not look directly into the LEDs. Red and near-infrared light is not ultraviolet and does not tan or burn, but the emitters are bright and staring into them is uncomfortable. Wearable devices ship with eye protection built in or included. Keep eyes closed during face sessions.
