What a red light therapy belt is good for

A belt is the most practical form factor in this category and the least glamorous, which is roughly the inverse of how it is usually marketed.

Contact removes the distance problem

Panels require you to hold a position at a known distance for a known time. A belt sits against the skin, so the distance is fixed at zero and the only variable left is duration.

That makes a belt far easier to be consistent with, which is the variable that actually determines whether a device earns its shelf space.

Coverage and fit range

Check the emitting area in millimetres, not the total belt length — a long strap with a small emitting panel covers very little. Then check the fit range, because a belt that will not close comfortably will not be worn.

Cordless matters more than it looks

A mains-powered belt tethers you to a wall for the whole session. A removable battery pack lets you sit anywhere, and lets you replace the consumable part without replacing the belt.

Wear it against skin

Light does not usefully pass through clothing. Any output figure on a spec sheet assumes skin contact, so wearing a belt over a shirt makes the published figure irrelevant.
